Chocolate chip muffins

I created this piece because I wanted to get more experience with water color and I really like the way that these recipe cards look. I decided to do the recipe page for a chocolate chip muffins because I not only love them but I thought that all of the ingredients would look nicely together! I used more neutral colors to make the piece more calm and pleasing to observe. I used pen to enhance the colors of each ingredient and to experiment with a new medium. Watercolor is more of a new medium for me and I love getting more practice with it.
One principle of design within this piece is unity within the way that each ingredient is layered together. Another principle of design within this piece is balance within the colors used since they are all pretty uniform. The last principle of design within this piece is proportion within the shapes and sizes of each ingredient. For the composition of this piece, I wanted to fill the whole page and layer the ingredients for the muffins to make it look like a collage. I referenced images from Pinterest of other food studies for my medium and the arrangement of the piece. The title was plain and simple to get my point across right as someone observed the piece.
The piece was created to make a recipe more appealing and interesting to look at. I just think that it is more fun to look at rather than just a plain piece of paper with words and maybe one picture on it. This piece was created to bring something interesting to the kitchen! I think that people would find this piece more appealing to look at and for that reason, I created this food study. I think it is interesting to tie art into everyday actuvities such as cooking.
One strength within this piece was the use of the pen with the watercolor. When I have used watercolor in the past, I did not use another medium with it so this was great practice for the future. I feel that this piece turned was successful because it gets the point across and it makes cooking more fun. If I were to go back and recreate this piece I think I would maybe add some other colors and change the background. I was trying to make a light background so that it would not take easy from the main part of the piece but I don’t think it was too bad. Overall, this piece was fun to create and it taught me some more skills!
